Shoreham Art Gallery – In Full Bloom

April is going to be an exciting month for the gallery. Our collaboration continues with the River Cafe, for the next 3 months, whilst enjoying a bite to eat, you can experience the wonderfully original take on life through the eyes of the artist Chris Dawson. The gallery also has a new member, Belinda Scott, who makes exquisite stained glass pieces both for the home and garden. On top of that, we welcome Polly Finch as our guest artist this month with her paper cuts and hand-stencilled fabrics.

Belinda Scott

I’m delighted to join Shoreham Art Gallery, a place alive with colour, craft, and creative spirit. My work is shaped by the Sussex coastline – its tides, textures, and quiet transformations. I’m drawn to materials with a past: reclaimed glass, recycled lead, and FSC® certified timber marked by years in marine environments, each carrying its own story. Glass captivates me with its light, iridescence, and shifting moods. Blending traditional and contemporary techniques, I aim to create pieces that alter a space’s atmosphere. My sculptures have found homes across the UK and Europe, and I always welcome conversations about new, personal commissions.

Chris Dawson

Chris brings creativity to every aspect of his work, whether as a trained product designer, cartoonist, or fine artist. Originally rooted in design, his artistic practice is driven by curiosity and the desire to create work that people can enjoy and connect with. Chris paints primarily for his own interest and pleasure, exploring a wide range of subjects without limitation – from boats and biscuits to sea and landscapes. Whatever the theme, he adds an imaginative twist to make each piece distinctive and thought-provoking. Humour often plays a part in his inspiration. Chris works mainly in acrylics, embracing their versatility.

This April, I’m excited to join Shoreham Art Gallery as a guest artist. Alongside my papercuts, I’ll be exhibiting hand stencilled fabrics that I sew into purses and small bags. I’m a self taught paper artist, and every piece is individually hand cut with a scalpel, making each one completely unique. In 2025, I had the joy of learning from fabric artist Pauline Greuell, who introduced me to her wonderful stencilling techniques and the world of pattern repeats and fabric design. These skills beautifully complement paper cutting and have become another creative outlet I truly love.

With the clocks changing and the days getting longer, so do the Shoreham Art Galleries’ opening hours. During the summer, we are open Monday – Friday 10am-5pm, Saturday 9am-5pm, and Sunday 11am-4pm.

Why not come and enjoy spending some time in our small yet perfectly formed sculpture garden? There is even a table and chairs where you can enjoy a moment of peace and quiet. You will find the gallery and our lovely garden at 27 Brunswick Road, just a short stroll from Shoreham’s train station. Expect a warm welcome from one of the exhibiting artists who take it in turns to steward the gallery throughout the year.
